The Department of Defence's National Airfields Program delivers major aircraft pavement, aeronautical ground lighting (AGL) and select airfield drainage maintenance works; a program that is delivered by the Capital Facilities and Infrastructure Branch (CFI) of the Security and Estate Group (SEG) on behalf of Estate Planning Branch (as Sponsor) for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
The National Airfield Works Program is a 10-year rolling Airfield Capital Works maintenance program which encompasses the annual pavement maintenance program as well as the capital maintenance projects across all airfields within the Defence Estate. The National Airfield Works program is necessary to maintain the full operational effectiveness of Defence airfields in support of Defence air power capabilities.
Maintenance activities concerning the P00010 National Airfield Works Program includes:
- Airfield drainage system repairs
- Flank maintenance works and pavement edge drop rectification
- Flexible pavement repairs, rejuvenation and replacement
- Rigid pavement repairs and replacement
- Replacement of airfield lighting fittings
- Replacement of airfield lighting primary and control circuits
- Replacement of electrical infrastructure supporting airfield lighting and emergency airfield lighting
- Runway friction modification
- Remediation of aircraft arrestor systems
