Tweed Shire Council is proposing to install a new solar power system at the Kingscliff Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

The installation of the proposed system stems. From a Council resolution in March 2013 for Tweed Shire Council to work towards becoming self-sufficient in renewable energy.

The proposed solar power system will be an addition to the existing system that was previously constructed at the site. The Kingscliff WWTP is a large consumer of electricity from the grid and this project is an important flagship in Council’s transition to cost-effective, renewable energy generation at its facilities.

A large solar installation at this site will avoid considerable greenhouse gas emissions per year and demonstrate tangible progress to the community in support of local, state, national and international commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
