Department of Environment and Science is seeking Proposals for BQ23 Emissions Baselining & Priority Activities for Six Procurement Categories.
To deliver on these procurement-specific targets, the Department of Environment and Science (DES) will work with the Key Categories and agencies to:
- Identify and estimate tonnes of lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions relating to government spending in each Key Category.
- Set an emissions baseline for each Key Category by end-2024.
- Identify and agree priority procurement activities and strategies to achieve emissions reduction targets in each Key Category, such as through the application of circular-economy or waste mitigation criteria or targets and enhanced procurement practices.
- Develop guidance and resources that support the capability of government buyers (and suppliers).
- Ensure robust accounting, measuring, verification and reporting of procurement-related emissions for government spend across the supply chain.
To achieve these targets, a critical first step will be to establish the procurement-related emissions profile and baselines for Queensland Government spend across the Key Categories and develop procurement-related activities (strategies, plans, criteria, etc.) needed for each.
