WA Country Health Service (WACHS) Kimberley covers an area of 423,517km2.  The distances involved in providing health services across this huge region are extreme and during the wet season often treacherous and inaccessible by road.  When road travel is an option, the time required to travel from one location to another is often several days, increasing the risk of driver and passenger fatigue, wildlife and road conditions as well as increasing the time away from home, off country and work.

The provision of air charter services provides a safe transport option that removes the obstacles of large distances, and inaccessible roads during the wet season.  It ensures a timely and cost-efficient mode of transport to remote communities is available for visiting specialists and staff.

It also ensures that remote communities receive specialised health services not otherwise available due to large distances from major towns.  These communities have significant Aboriginal populations that require ongoing access to primary care services which are otherwise unavailable due to the remoteness of the communities and with any existing services only providing basic health care.
