EDF Renewables Australia places a strong emphasis on partnering with local suppliers and fostering supply chain opportunities. The company values consistent engagement and collaboration with local businesses, First Nations and community groups, and is seeking partners to help deliver projects and enhance local capabilities. EDF Renewables Australia is encouraging interested suppliers to express their interest in participating in the Newcastle Offshore Wind project's development, construction, and operation phases.
About EDF RenewablesEDF Renewables, a prominent global player in renewable energy, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDF Group, one of the world's largest electricity producers. With a focus on onshore and offshore wind, solar, battery storage, and green hydrogen, EDF Renewables aims to double its worldwide generation capacity to 60GW by 2030. Since establishing a presence in Australia in 2017, the company has actively been developing wind and solar projects in the country. EDF Renewables is committed to helping Australia meet its renewable energy goals and will continue to invest in the development of new renewable projects across the country.
About Newcastle Offshore Wind Project
EDF Renewables Australia, as part of a strategic partnership with Newcastle Offshore Wind Energy (NOWE), is developing an offshore, floating wind farm in the Hunter Declared Area in Commonwealth waters off the coast of Newcastle. Well situated near the Port of Newcastle and transmission networks, the Newcastle Offshore Wind (NOW) project is expected to contribute to the electricity grid supply as local coal-fired power stations retire, promoting clean energy and a sustainable future for the region.
EDF Renewables operates multiple offshore wind farms globally and a further four are under construction including one with floating technology in France. The locally-based original developers of the project, NOWE, are continuing to work on the project with EDF Renewables as a collaborative partner. The project combines the international expertise of EDF Renewables in the floating offshore wind sector, with NOWE's many years of local technical assessment, and active engagement with local stakeholders and the wider Newcastle community.
