Overview

Purpose:

Youth engagement happens when young people participate in meaningful opportunities and roles that allow them to build on their strengths, take on responsibilities, and contribute to decisions that affect themselves and others. The purpose of the grant is to enable program providers, including non-government organisations, community-based organisations and local schools to deliver summer engagement programs to young people aged between 10 and 15 years of age residing in the Central Australia region with the intention to engage young people during the school holidays and/or after school hours at the commencement of Term 1, 2024, in activities to enhance their readiness to learn in 2024.

Engagement programs, particularly during school holidays, reduces social isolation and encourages young people to make new friends and extend their community networks. Stimulated by offering activities that develop the whole child: physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual as well as learning skills for life.

Aims:

Through the provision of grant funding for the delivery of youth engagement programs, young people will further enable young people to enhance their abilities in a range of areas, such as:

• engage youth in pro-social activities
• ability to engage in a structured learning environment
• awareness of their social and emotional wellbeing, including their needs
• increased recognition and understanding of their personal abilities, qualities, and strengths
• contribution, communication, and relationship skills
• leadership skills, motivation, and goal setting
• development of age-appropriate life skills and sense of agency
• competence in academic, social, and vocational areas
• confidence or a positive self-identity
• connections to community, family, and peers
• character or positive values, integrity, and moral commitment
