The Western Australian Agriculture Authority (WAAA) through the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) seeks applications for the bulk up and marketing of a new variety of awnless Triticale and a new variety of Cereal Rye.
Both varieties have been bred by the University of Florida for enhanced forage production. The varieties have been chosen as the best performing in Australian conditions after an extensive evaluation program conducted by DPIRD. The awnless Triticale variety is suited for grazing, hay or grain production in low rainfall environments with sandy/acidic soils. The Cereal Rye variety is suited for grazing and grain production in low rainfall environments with sandy/acidic soils.
The Department wishes to licence at least one organisation to bulk up and market a new Triticale and a new Cereal Rye cultivar. Organisations are welcome to respond expressing interest in one or both cultivars. The Western Australian Agriculture Authority is making these cultivars available under license from Florida Foundation Seed Producers Inc. The cultivars will be released for the first time in 2023. Licences are being offered for organisations to bulk up and market this cultivar in Australia.
