Whaleback is a busy public golf course located in Parkwood within the City of Canning. Participation figures for the FY22-23 include 83,000 golf rounds and 60,000 driving range visitors. The venue also has six tennis courts. The two-storey driving range with 40 bays is the second largest in Perth.

After 40 years of outsourcing the management of Whaleback Golf Course (Whaleback), the City of Canning will take all operations in-house from 18 December 2023 including the provision of food and beverage services. This will include the provision of non-alcoholic beverages from the pro shop, kiosk, function room, driving range and drinks cart.

The city is seeking a suitable partner to provide alcoholic beverages to Whaleback Golf Course The venue holds a special facility licence as well as consumption licence (purple line) covering the golf course and driving range . The condition for the consumption area is that only mid-strength can be served.

As there is no current trading history available, the City is seeking a proposal that includes an initial ranging plan with a detailed review to be completed after six months of trading.

The contract term will be two (2) years with the option of an additional 12 months as the City of Canning request.

Handover of the Whaleback site to the City will occur on Sunday 17 December in the afternoon. The City will bump-in Sunday afternoon and will open Whaleback to patrons on Monday 18 December.
