Tender Description
Randwick City Council is seeking tenders for the operation of the South Maroubra beach volleyball activities.
Competition and ‘learn to play’ beach volleyball is seen as an appropriate activity to be conducted on the City’s beaches with south Maroubra Beach being the designated location for this activity. The current operation has shown that the local and wider community have actively endorsed the activity with a minimum of thirty teams playing in five divisions. This represents over 100 players and this number is augmented with additional participants in ‘learn to play’ courses and other tournaments.
Beach volleyball at the south end of Maroubra Beach commenced in March 2006 on a six (6) month trial basis. Following the initial trial, Council resolved to continue to permit the operation of beach volleyball by commercial operators. The operation which continues today, has expanded to five (5) beach volleyball courts (and 1 temporary court) with permissible operating hours from 7am to 7pm Monday to Sunday. The operation is currently run by beachvolleyball.com.au on a month to month holding over basis.
It is envisaged that the successful tender will be able to demonstrate a background in successful management of a sporting activity supported by strong financial and community management skills. Council’s aim is to engage an organisation or individual to manage the operation of the beach volleyball in a manner that addresses community needs and meets Council’s and community’s expectations. The expected outcome is an increased participation and profit return.
The successful applicant will be required to enter into a formal licence agreement with Council for a period of five (5) years.
