Request for Tender – NLIS Animal Identification Technology (AIT) Program - Field Trial Management
Tender ID: 534684
Tender Details
Tender Description
The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS) is Australia’s system for the identification and traceability of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) susceptible species including cattle, sheep and goats. NLIS was introduced in 1999 to enhance Australia's ability to trace cattle during disease and food incidents but was expanded to include sheep and goats in 2006. Under NLIS, livestock are identified with animal identification technologies. Animal identification technologies for use under NLIS must be approved under the NLIS Animal Identification Technology (AIT) Approval Program and become ‘NLIS Approved Technologies’.
Under the NLIS AIT Program, new devices or technologies seeking NLIS approval must go through field trials. The purpose of the field trials is to assess the identification technology against the Approval Requirements in an on-farm setting. The results from trials form part of the evaluation process that the Standards Committee consider as part of recommending a device for NLIS approval to Integrity Systems Company (ISC).
ISC is responsible for coordinating and managing the field trials of technology or devices that are seeking NLIS approval. This includes sourcing and securing trial properties and independent supervisors; managing relationships with a range of key stakeholders; coordinating device applications, reads and reporting trial data back to the Standards Committee.
ISC is currently seeking expressions of interest from relevant organisations to coordinate and manage the field trials and related activities of livestock identification devices and alternate technologies for the NLIS. For more detailed information on the project requirements please refer to the request for tender and annexures below.
