Tender Description

The Department of Education (DoE) is inviting tenders for the design and construction of an Outdoor Learning Centre located at Bundaberg State High School, 37a Maryborough St, Bundaberg, QLD.

Additional tender documentation is available for collection from Bundaberg State High School, 37a Maryborough St, Bundaberg, QLD, 4670 from Friday 11th of August 2023 or by contacting Nicole Halford, Facilities Manager on telephone at 41545333 or email at nhalf0@eq.edu.au for further information.

Hard copies or electronic tenders are to be submitted by Friday 1st of September, 2023 at 2.00 pm to Bundaberg State High School, PO Box 1041, Bundaberg, Q, 4670 or emailed to nhalf0@eq.edu.au.

The project invites tenders for the construction of an Outdoor Learning Centre comprising a steel, gable roof structure with a new concrete floor, covering the equivalent of 2 basketball courts (lengthwise or end on end) and measuring 70 metres by 20 metres with a minimum roof height of 6 metres to the gutter.

The 2-court venue will be positioned on the existing site where the courts of the former PCYC were situated. This site is on the western side of the building we now call W Block (our Performing Arts building), identified as Site 83 on the Facilities Map and is adjacent to the train line.

The following are to be included as part of the tender;

  • Construction of 2 concrete sports courts with a gable roof structure covering both courts with a minimum roof height of 6 metres to the gutter (gable ends enclosed to the bottom of the gable), with sheeting extending down each side 1.2 metres with the western side 2.4 metres – The concrete must be able to withstand large delivery trucks driving over it so it should be a minimum thickness of 150mm. Existing concrete on the western side of the adjacent building will be required to be cut approximately 3 metres from the building (concrete will need to be removed and dumped). New concrete is to match height of the remaining concrete with appropriate fall to prevent water ponding on the surface.
  • All existing bitumen court surfaces are to be removed along with existing posts and sleeves.
  • Provision must be made to coordinate with the line marking contractor to install sport post sleeves (provided by the school) in the concrete surface for netball and volleyball ( a line marking contractor will be coordinated by the school)
  • Removal of the existing awning from the western side of W Block – to remain on site and be retained by the school for future use ( allowance should be made for necessary demolition). Any consequential repairs needed to the existing W Block roof should be included.
  • Coordinate with the electrical contractor to allow for the provision of conduit to facilitate 3 phase power supply (electrical contractor to be arranged by the school)
  • Allowance for engineering and beams to accommodate 4 Grand Slam ceiling-mounted basketball systems, model number BB1004 – data sheet attached ( to be purchased by the school and installed at a later date)
  • All necessary plumbing and stormwater drainage
  • Appropriate engineering and certification
  • No structural posts are to be positioned inside the structure
  • All works are to be made safe to meet requirements of a school environment (ie no sharp edges on columns)

Compliance with all relevant Department of Education requirements is a mandatory condition including; workplace health and safety, worksafe management plan and work method statements
