Tender Description

Shute Harbour has originally constructed in the early 1960s as an ideal location for a departure point to service local island and reef trips due to its central proximity to nearby tourist attractions. Further infrastructure improvements were completed in the 1970s, late 1990's and early 2000's. After being damaged as a result of the Severe Tropical Cyclone (STC) Debbie in March 2017, federal and state governments awarded funding for the rejuvenation of the Shute Harbour Transit Facility.

The Shute Harbour Redevelopment Project was commenced in 2019, went to a construction contract in 2020, was completed and formally handed back to Council in early 2022, and included an extensive rebuild of civil, building, and marine structures. It has been operating since mid-late 2021 when practical completion of the construction contract was achieved. The facility includes 3 pontoon arrangements (“Fingers”), each with two pontoons connected via a stainless-steel plate (“Ramps”), and each finger is connected to the Terminal Building via a gangway structure (“Gangways”). The Gangways and the Ramps have roller joints at their base to allow for the natural movement of the pontoons in the marine environment.

All Fingers have potable water, fire services, shore power, and lighting, and in addition, Fingers 1 and 2 have both ULP and Diesel storage and delivery systems, connected to a Fuel Facility north of the Terminal building. Finger 3 has 6 pylons and Fingers 2 & 1 have 7 pylons that are driven into the seabed, each of which is supported at approximately pontoon level by pontoon guide structures. Each of these guide structures is equipped with 4 equally spaced rubbing pads.

As a result of the operation of the three pontoons (Fingers 1,2 & 3), a number of improvements to the pontoon and support structures have been identified that will increase serviceability and reduce ongoing maintenance.

All enquiries are to be posted through the 'Communications Forum'.
