Tender Description
Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate, and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system. This transformed energy system will predominantly rely on wind and solar energy generation, complimented by dispatchable energy sources such as batteries and pumped hydropower energy storage (PHES). Long duration PHES will be a critical component of this future energy mix.
The Pioneer-Burdekin Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) and, the Borumba Pumped Hydro Energy Storage Project (PHES) will be keystone projects to enable the Queensland Government’s energy system transition.
Queensland Hydro has been tasked to prepare a detailed analytical report (DAR) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) for the project.
The objective of this RFQ is to engage a suitably qualified supplier to perform surface water and sediment quality study requirements of the Pioneer Buderkin PHES and Borumba PHES projects as detailed in the two attachments.

Services required for the Pioneer-Burdekin PHES
1. DAR Phase
- Field Survey Technical memo describing the proposed field survey.
- Water and sediment quality technical report
2. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) Phase
- Field survey technical memo
- EIS technical report
- EIS Chapter
- Responses to Request for Information (RFIs) as required
- All Raw data in electronic format
Services required for the Borumba PHES:
- Technical memo which outlines the proposed field sampling methods and schedule
- Water and Sediment Quality Technical Report
- EIS chapter input for water quality
- Response to request for information (as required)
- All raw data in electronic format
