Tender Details
Tender Description
Council seeks tenders to lease the remaining available land in the Lansdown Eco Industrial Precinct (LEIP or Precinct) from parties with an interest in carrying out industrial uses that are complementary to the Precinct
The LEIP is positioned to become Northern Australia’s first environmentally sustainable advanced manufacturing, technology and processing hub. Located approximately 40 kilometres south of the Townsville central business district, within the suburb of Calcium, the LEIP comprises an area of approximately 2,200 hectares extending east from the Mingela State Forest and Lansdown Creek to the Flinders Highway.
The Council acquired the land for the LEIP in 2001 having formerly been owned by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) as a pasture research site.
The LEIP is intended to be developed over the next 20 years and is forecast to support more than 5,000 construction jobs, around 1,600 initial jobs and more than 9,100 indirect jobs. The project forms part of the Townsville City Deal which has the commitment of all levels of government, to develop new industries and export growth for Townsville and its regional partners over the next 15 years.
The LEIP is supported by:
• road and rail connections (national highway network, major rail links);
• easy access to the Port of Townsville and Townsville Airport for interstate shipping and international export;
• a broad and strong local economy, consistent population growth, and skilled and specialist labour;
• access to world-class tertiary education and research facilities to advance knowledge and skills, including the only tertiary medical facility in Northern Australia;
• tertiary hospital and health services; and,
• a broad range of public and private schooling options.
From May 2019 through to July 2020, Council conducted several rounds of open market tenders seeking proposals from interested parties for land within the Precinct. At completion of these tender rounds, Council had committed and conditionally committed 1,285 hectares of land within the Precinct to five proponents. Approximately 555 hectares of high impact industry zoned land remains available within the Precinct.
