Tender Description

The Pilbara Transmission Project (Project) aims to integrate Fortescue's iron ore mining and port operations in the Pilbara to a common 220kV network.

The creation of this 220kV network and these Stage 4 works will enable Fortescue's existing Solomon Mine power station to supply power to Fortescue's Eliwana Mine (Eliwana).

Pilbara Energy Company is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified contractors and suppliers for Project tendering opportunities on the Industry Capability Network (ICN) Gateway.

Scope Overview.

Stage 4 includes a high voltage transmission line and associated infrastructure (substations / connection points) to expand the existing 220kV network allowing the connection of the Eliwana mining operations to the Solomon 220kV substation.

This transmission extension allows for the connection of Eliwana and any future mining developments in the area.

The stage 4 works include the establishment of:

  • 130km of high voltage 220kV transmission line
  • Single circuit transmission line with ~250MVA of power transfer capacity, including 2 x overhead fibre OPGW
  • 1 x 220 / 33kV substation comprising of 1 bay (circuit) of 220kV hybrid switchgear, 9 circuits of 33kV distribution and BOP infrastructure; and
  • Extension of existing 220 / 33kV Solomon substation to cater for the transmission line connection - Additional 220kV gas insulated bay with all secondary systems

Indicative Timeline:

Procurement of poles, transmission lines, conductors and OPGW from August 2023.

Construction of earthworks and civils from Q4 2023

Construction of transmission lines from Q1 2024.

Construction of substations from Q1 2024.

Practical Completion of Stage 4 by Q3 2025.

Local and Indigenous participation:

In line with Fortescue's commitment to supporting local Western Australian communities, requirements relating to the engagement of local and Indigenous vendors will be included in the selection criteria for the Project tendering opportunities.
