Tender Description
The Shire of Carnarvon is calling for local Aboriginal artists to submit Expressions of Interest (EOI) to produce a mural piece for the main entrance into the Shire administration office on Francis Street.
About this project:
The Shire of Carnarvon received funding from the National Australia Day Council to support the Shire in achieving actions within the Reconciliation Plan and including Aboriginal heritage and cultural acknowledgement throughout public art within the Carnarvon community.
The Shire is seeking expressions of interest from local Aboriginal artists to submit their concepts to align with the funding theme: Reflect. Respect. Celebrate Yinggarda Country. We're all part of the story.
Artwork concept:
The purpose of the artwork is to:
a. Provide a visual representation of an appropriate cultural story that aligns with, acknowledges, and celebrates the history and heritage of the Yinggarda people;
b. Provide a strong visual statement of the Shire’s commitment to reconciliation and recognition of Yinggarda people and their cultural heritage of the area;
c. Ensure that visitors to the Shire of Carnarvon are aware that they are on, and respectful of, Yinggarda country;
d. Showcase the artist talent in our community.
The key themes that could potentially be included in the artwork are:
• Flora and Fauna
• landscape
• History and heritage
• Ceremonial
• Family and community
Concepts proposed outside the above-listed themes will also be considered.
