Tender ID: 516925
Tender Details
Tender Description
The project is the design and construct delivery for the wetarea refurbishment of Hatherly House in Bathurst, New South Wales.
Hatherly House is a high society dwelling of the late 19th century. Designed, constructed, and occupied by accomplished architect Edward Gell. The features of Hatherly House have been well documented over time, namely the triple storey structure, L-shape configuration (innovative in the Victorian era), the type of construction materials and the method of construction.
Over time the dwelling has undergone several additions/alterations of varying degrees. Externally the additions have kept within the period they were constructed in. This only minimally detracts from the period correct construction of the original build and is commonplace. Building expansion, maintenance/upkeep of aging buildings, material availability and unrecognition of significance at the time and then changes in the building environment are common causes of the deviation. Internally, alterations have deviated considerably.
To align with Charles Sturt's Social Responsibility strategic focus area, "Engaging regionally and globally to drive sustainable prosperity" the intention is to return and maintain Hatherly House to a more period correct status.
