The?Shire of Mornington?is a?local government area?in northwest?Queensland,?Australia. The Shire Council employees are 93% local Indigenous residents. The Mornington Island Airport (OMG) airstrip to be upgraded is in the township of?Gununa, on Mornington Island. The Shire has a population of approximately 1,150 people, with 86% of residents being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
The upgrade of the airstrip has been funded by the Australian Government. It is budgeted and scheduled to be completed and handed over to the Council no later than 30 July 2023.
Project Scope:
1. Line marking includes repainting the existing markings, plus additional line marking to be drafted with turn pad markings and re-certification of existing design.
2. Relocation of illuminated wind indicator (IWI) to outside transitional surface zone. A new illuminated wind indicator with LED lights will be positioned in accordance with MOS and the old, illuminated wind indicator mast, lights and sock will be removed.
3. Certified Civil Engineering design, reshaping and construction of drainage swale around GA apron to redirect overland stormwater flows and prevent flooding of GA apron area during high rainfall events. The existing overland flows will be redirected around the GA apron area and swale created to manage flows and disburse stormwater during high rainfall events.
4. Suppliers must be able to work with a controlled work schedule to avoid interrupting scheduled flights (arrivals/departures).
5. Account Management, Service level arrangement and Key Performance Indicators is a long-term requirement.
