Growers are under mounting pressure to maintain profitability due to constraints such as input costs, herbicide resistance, declining soil fertility, increasing soil-borne pathogens and climatic variability. The farming systems of southern Australia are diverse and the solutions to bring about short term and long term benefits are also diverse. This is an exceptional opportunity via this new GRDC investment to address the profitability, efficiency and sustainability in farming systems across the diversity of agroecological zones in the Southern Grains Region. Field experimentation and modelling will produce the datasets will further provide growers with the confidence to consider change.
