NGH Pty Ltd (NGH) has been contracted by NSW National Parks and Wildte Service (NPWS) (7A Adelong Road, Tumut NSW 2720) to undertake an Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessment (ACHA) for the proposed Kengal Aboriginal Place (The Rock Nature Reserve) Trail Maintenance and Upgrade Works and Fire Access and Fire Trail (FAFT) upgrade located near Lockhart The Rock Road, The Rock in the Lockhart Shire Council Local Government Area.

The assessment area for the trail maintenance and upgrade works and FAFT upgrade includes Lot 3 DP1196212 and Lot 36 DP6655-1603. The purpose of the consultation with Aboriginal people is to assist the proponent (NPWS) in the preparation of the ACHA and to be involved in the consultation as part of the lodgment of an Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permit (AHIP) application.

In order to fulfil the requirements, set out in the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Consultation Requirements for Proponents 2010, NGH is seeking interested Aboriginal parties who hold cultural knowledge of the assessment area to register their interest in the consultation process for the project and to assist in the determination of cultural significance of any Aboriginal objects subject to the application. An outcome of this project will be the formation of the Kengal Aboriginal Place Cultural Reference Group for all interested Aboriginal people or parties to help continue and guide the culturally appropriate management of this significant Aboriginal Place in conjunction with NPWS.
