District Health Boards across New Zealand use around 100 million non-sterile containers approximately. 99% of these containers are single-use, and less than 1% are reusable. Although some DHBs moved from reusable to single-use to reduce any risk of infection, some are reconsidering this to reduce their carbon footprint and waste impact.
This ROI will request submitting suppliers a full lifecycle assessment of their proposed product so we can evaluate with a group of experts the balance between requirement compliance, infection control suitability and sustainability.
The proposals will then be shortlisted for a closed RFQ process. The objective of this RFQ will be to create a national panel of suppliers for each subcategory.
