Council Calls for Creative Concepts that add 'A Dash of Panache' to our High Street

⁠⁠⁠The Your High Street program has progressed to a new and exciting stage with Maitland City Council seeking expressions of interest for five creative opportunities.
Suitable practitioners who embody the creative flair and have the practical experience to design and install a parklet, featured seating with integrated garden, an urban shade canopy, creative footpath treatments and a creative street treatment are encouraged to apply now.

Individuals or organisations may make submissions for one or all of the projects, however collaboration is encouraged, and it is important that the individual solutions complement each other to create a cohesive and connected space.

These permanent interventions will aim to create a vibrant, engaging and greener public space in High Street, between Grant Street and Ken Tubman Drive.

Maitland City Council Senior Place Activation Officer Kara Stonestreet says ‘the designs will transform this section of High Street’s urban landscape.

‘Our vision is to create engaging public spaces that inspire play, social interaction and can act as a colourful backdrop for performances, markets and pop up activations.

‘We encourage submissions to be unique and playful that encourage discovery and intrigue, whilst also serving as an urban expression of Maitland’s people and personality.’

The initiative is proudly funded by NSW Government’s Your High Street program. The program supports councils across NSW to make permanent improvements to their high streets as it recognises the importance of streets as public spaces in strategic centres.

Expressions of interest for the Your High Street projects are now open with the first round and second round of projects closing at 11.59pm on Sunday 10 April and Tuesday 19 April 2022 respectfully.
