Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠Liverpool City Council is excited to announce the return of Starry Sari Night this year on George Street Liverpool. The festival invites residents, businesses and visitors to explore South Asia in the South West.

George Street is one of the most unique streets in Sydney, home to one of the highest numbers of Indian Sari shops in Australia – a must-visit destination for many including, brides, grooms wedding guests and fashionistas.

From Friday 20 May to Sunday 22 May 2022, festival goers will encounter something to see, taste and do as they leisurely wander down ‘Sari Street’ and its surrounding laneways from a market bazaar to music and entertainment to interactive cultural experiences.

Liverpool City Council is seeking EOIs for a street art mural on two sites of George Street, Liverpool.

All successful EOIs must demonstrate artistic excellence. Collaborations are welcome.

ARTWORK BRIEF

  • Council aspires to cement George Street’s identity and brand as “Sari Street”, a destination for vibrant Indian culture, aromatic cuisine and as an iconic fashion destination
  • The artwork should express Liverpool’s aspirations and celebrate subcontinental culture and highlight the uniqueness of the destination. The artwork can do this using vibrant colours, gold, textures, visual representations and more. The artwork should be influenced by the textiles of Sari clothing
  • The artwork should highlight George Street as somewhere where people can meet and connect, explore and encounter unique experiences
  • The artwork should encourage interactive engagement and be considered ‘instagrammable’
  • The artwork should align with Council’s vision to create a vibrant, creative and inviting city centre and creating connection in the community
  • Consideration for the use of appropriate painting materials is required, longevity of the artwork is essential and must last a minimum of three years without additional works
  • Artwork must have a graffiti proof coat
  • Approximate measurements of the walls are in appendix 1
  • Artist must advise budget including all supplies, material, scaffoldings or equipment required
  • The artwork must be completed by 10 May 2022. It is highly recommended and favourable that the artwork is completed ahead of 10 May 2022 to consider wet weather provisions if necessary . It is highly recommended that the artist provides a timetable for planned works

SUBMITTING AN EOI

Please complete the below EOI form and submit with all relevant documents to Liverpool City Council Visitor Economy Officer, Susana Freitas, freitass@liverpool.nsw.gov.au

Submissions are due by Sunday 3 April at 5pm.

Please note that submission of an EOI is used as an expression of interest only and does not guarantee that your EOI will be selected.

All submissions should include the following:

  • Completed EOI form indicating which wall the EOI is for
  • Max two-page CV that outlines your relevant experiences and achievements
  • Images of similar previous commissions and related work
  • A response to the brief in the artist’s chosen format. This can include written, visual, video, audio, digital or any other form. Describe and/or demonstrate the look of the artwork, and, where appropriate, the intended experience of viewing and interacting with it
  • Indicative costings for the proposed artwork, in line with budgets outlined in this EOI
  • A Certificate of Currency for Public Liability Insurance
