Burdekin Shire Council’s Audit Committee is currently seeking expressions of interest for an Independent Chairperson, with applications closing on Monday 28 February.
The Audit Committee serves as a source of independent advice to Council and the CEO on finance, governance, risk management and audit-related matters.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said the Independent Chairperson formed a pivotal link between Council’s internal and external audit functions.
“Council’s Audit Committee Independent Chairperson not only promotes effective communication between the Audit Committee and Council’s Executive and Senior Leadership Groups, but ensures committee meetings run smoothly and the agenda and minutes are accurate,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“There is no need for the successful applicant to reside in the Burdekin Shire Council Local Government Area, however they must not be a current or former Councillor or staff member within the past eight years and should have a professional qualification in accounting, finance, business or risk management.
“I want to thank outgoing Independent Chairperson Ian Jessup for his outstanding contribution to the Audit Committee over the past five years, with Burdekin Shire Council always receiving positive feedback from the Queensland Audit Office and internal audit functions.”
Expressions of interest for Independent Chairperson of the Burdekin Shire Council Audit Committee are now open and will close at 5pm on Monday 28 February.
