Core, Edge & Aggregate Switch Replacement Program

⁠⁠⁠Sydney Trains operate a large scale, carrier grade operational critical data network (OCDN) which provides data network connectivity for business and operations critical networks, and systems across the Sydney Trains Rail Network including Digital Train Radio, CCTV, OPAL ticketing, Passenger Information and Train Condition Monitoring.

Sydney Trains’ OCDN system came into operation in 2013 as a multi-vendor IP/MPLS (Internet Protocol/Multi-Protocol Label Switching) network utilising equipment sourced from several different vendors to achieve the highest level of availability by incorporating diversity (and not just redundancy) in hardware, software and protocol implementation.

Owing to increased bandwidth requirements necessitating the upgrade to higher capacity interfaces across the network, existing equipment reaching end of sale and requiring replacement, Sydney Trains is now seeking to engage a provider for the supply and support of Core, Edge and Aggregate switches.
