Tender Description
This Contract is for the surfacing of 700m of the Frank Holman Track and construction of steps. This track section starts from the end of the existing metal above the steps at the Russell Road end of the track, and ends at the intersection with the Selwyn Av link track. It includes surfacing, step design and construction, and tree removal. There are several additional sections to be resurfaced outside of this main section, including some of the steps and sections on the way up from Russell Road, and two sections that are 10m and 13m long west of the main track section. A review of the surface condition from Russell Road to the top of the steps is also included, minor surface work is required in this area.
In Separable Portion 1 (Design) the Contractor shall be responsible for the design of the two sections of new steps and associated landings. The proposed track alignment follows the existing track, except for a 10m section that diverts around trees. Within the design phase the Contractor shall review the proposed alignment, the Contractor shall also mark out on the track their design with pegs and dazzle, and show the proposed surface treatment for each section of track. Following approval of the Contractors design, Separable Portion 2 for construction shall be awarded.
Separable Portion 2 (Construction) includes track surfacing, step construction and tree removal. Surfacing includes building up existing the rutted track with metal fill, and constructing a wearing surface that allows for water shedding and covers the exposed tree roots. Removal of trees is included where dead/dying trees are at risk of falling onto the track, or where healthy trees are within the proposed alignment. Working within the rules of an archaeological methodology and a District Council tree consent is required, and there will be construction monitoring by hapu representatives.
This work shall only be completed during dry surface conditions to ensure a well constructed track, to reduce erosion and to reduce the risk of kauri dieback spread through soil transportation.
