Art & About Sydney 2022 and beyond

⁠⁠⁠We’re seeking audacious and stirring murals and visual art installations that will engage, surprise and delight Sydneysiders.

The works will be free for the public and able to be viewed night and day.

This is an open call for proposals from Australian-based artists.

Brief
We’re looking for projects that:

• will be presented in the City’s LGA
• demonstrate artistic excellence
• are innovative
• create unique experiences through unexpected collaborations
• are actively engaged in the City of Sydney’s post Covid-19 recovery through the City’s Community Recovery Plan

Exhibition dates
Selected works will be realised from July 2022 to June 2023.

Budget
Artists can apply for up to $85,000 per project. Budgets for the project are to cover all costs for the presentation of the artwork.

Application requirements
All applications must be made through the online form. Emailed applications won’t be accepted. To complete the form, the following are required:

• artist/team contact details (indicate project leader for comms)
• artist/team’s bio or CVs
• artwork statement (200 to 250 words max) describing the Artwork/Project concept
• artist’s impression/concept drawings/production images of the proposed Artwork/Project
• an indicative production budget

Please ensure that all files are clearly labelled with the applicant’s name. The maximum file size for each file is 5MB.

Evaluation
Proposals will be evaluated according but not limited to:

• creative approach
• use of selected space
• calibre and experience of the artist/team
• likely quality of audience experience
• feasibility and risk of the project

Timeline

• Stage 1: Applications close 5pm, Monday 7 February 2022
• Stage 2: Shortlisted project proposals due April 2022
• Stage 3: Selected artists notified May 2022

Location
Art & About Sydney Artworks/Projects must take place within the City’s LGA. You may view maps of the City’s LGA and obtain further information about the City’s major parks and venues from the City’s website.

It isn’t imperative to find and secure a location before lodging an application. We’re happy to work with you to find a suitable location and gain the necessary approvals from property owners.
