Materials Recovery Facility Services

⁠⁠⁠The Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), located at 29 Victoria Street in Onehunga, is an essential part of Tāmaki Makaurau’s ecosystem of resource recovery infrastructure and services, helping support the achievement of Auckland’s zero waste vision.

The facility’s build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) contract expires on 30 June 2024. Council requires the MRF to remain operating from 1 July 2024 to ensure the continuity of Auckland’s kerbside recycling collections and to maximise resource recovery opportunities.

This Notice of Information has two three purposes:
1. To signal to interested suppliers in the market of council’s intention to procure MRF operational services via an open procurement process
2. To provide interested suppliers with background information about the services required; and
3. To detail how interested suppliers can participate in the Request for Proposal process.

The aim of Auckland Council’s procurement process (via an open market Request for Proposal process to be released on 1 December 2021) is to obtain sufficiently detailed information from potential suppliers about their respective organisations and their ability to provide and deliver the required services.

This will enable Auckland Council to then select and appoint the preferred supplier.
