RFT Sealed Roads Shoulder Widening Program

⁠⁠⁠Mount Barker District Council (the Council) invites Tenders from Tenderers for the purchase of Shoulder widening services (the Services). The Council will enter into a Lump Sum Contract for the Purchase of Services with the successful Tenderer.

Council requires shoulder widening services on Kondoparinga Road at Meadows and Wellington Road near Wistow. The shoulder widening on Kondoparinga Road is to be completed in 2021/22. The Shoulder widening on Wellington Road shall be undertaken as three separable portions over 3 years, with years 2 and 3 subject to Council receiving external funding.

Kondoparinga Rd is a collector Road in Meadows with an approximate traffic volume of 1000 VPD. Shoulder strengthening is required to upgrade the level of service on the Road and protect the asset from damage due to erosion and edge break. The total length of shoulder widening required is approximately 3.5km. Works will also include replacing and lowering existing road culverts to provide adequate clearance from the required shoulder widening works and culvert extensions as required to accommodate the increased shoulder width.

Wellington Rd near Wistow is rural in nature, with close roadside hazards, narrow lane widths, minimal shoulder run off, high speed limit and high traffic volumes. Shoulder widening and guardrail is required to increase road safety as well as extensions to existing culverts necessary to accommodate the road widening.

The future Wellington Road shoulder widening works in 2022/23 and 2023/24 are subject to Council receiving external funding.

The Successful contractor should be able to demonstrate competence in shoulder widening activities while maintaining the safe operation of the road throughout construction.
