Tender Description
CLOSING DATE EXTENDED
Logan City Council (Council) invites tenders from Respondents interested in purchasing the Biochar product produced at Council's biosolids gasification plant.
Council has pioneered an Australian-first biosolids gasification plant to transform sewage sludge (biosolids) into renewable energy and an environmentally friendly product called "biochar" (Biochar).
Following initial trials, Council is now constructing a full-scale gasification facility that will be operational by mid-2022.
Once operational the facility is expected to initially produce about 2,400 tonnes of Biochar per year, rising to around 3,200 tonnes per year by 2030. Council does not have capacity to utilise or store the Biochar, and therefore must dispose of the Biochar.
Biochar is a carbonised pellet-like product formed by the combustion of biosolids that has been thermally treated in an oxygen deficient environment. The chemical composition of the Biochar makes it suitable for use as a "Grade A" fertiliser under the Queensland End of Waste Code - Biosolids (Appendix 3) (EOW Code).
Having regard to the stable volume expected to be available, the quality of the Biochar as an effective fertiliser, and the commercial value of the Biochar, Council proposes to sell the Biochar.
