Byron Shire Council (BSC) has observed major deterioration affecting the roof and the roof supporting structure of the Biosolids Shed and the whole of the Chemical Storage Shed inside the Byron Sewerage Treatment Plant (BSTP) in Byron Bay, NSW. The Biosolids Shed is a greater structure and in better conditions when compared to the Chemical Storage Shed. As such, BSC wishes to carry out a major upgrade to the Biosolids Shed and demolitions and replacements to the Chemical Storage Shed. This contract is for the supply and construction of:

1. The Biosolids Shed roof and purlins replacement and structural upgrade.

2. The Chemical Storage Shed demolition and their foundations upgrades in preparation for the construction of the a new replacement shed – Please note: This replacement Chemical Storage Shed will not form part of the scope of this Contract.

For the Biosolids Shed, it is proposed to upgrade the existing structure by replacing the existing roof and carrying out repairs to other structural elements. It shall be noted that the design of the main steel portal frames was intended to minimise the weight of structural steel, irrespective of other considerations. This has resulted in a structure that will become unstable and be at risk of collapse when removing and replacing the existing roof sheeting, purlins, fascias and fly braces. The design drawings for the Biosolids Shed scope have been prepared from Salu Structural Engineering PTY LTD.

For the existing Chemical Storage Shed, its demolition is proposed, as well as the preparation and upgrade of the foundations, in the same locations, to host a new shed structure. This replacement Chemical Storage Shed will not form part of the scope of this Contract. The proposed Chemical Storage Shed shall be supplied and installed by BSC and others as part of a separate scope – a schematic architectural sketch is provided for info. The finalised design set of information provided for the foundation upgrades are indicative only will be finalised and provided to the successful tenderer prior to construction.
