Tender Description
The Dunedin City Council (DCC) implemented RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology in 2014/15 across its Libraries network. This included the tagging of approximately 350,000 collection items, installation of RFID readers, book return chutes, self-issue kiosks, security gates and an automated sorter.
The existing RFID system throughout our Libraries network requires both upgraded hardware, software and service and maintenance support.
The timing of this procurement also presents the opportunity to address future RFID needs in the following areas:
- the new electric mobile library vehicles, currently being sourced for implementation in 2022/23
- South Dunedin Library and Community Complex due for completion in 2023/2024
- the Central City Library ground floor and entrance area, due for refurbishment in 2023/2024. (This presents an opportunity to look at options for how returned items are collected and sorted as well as innovations in customer service using RFID technology).
