Tender Description

Auckland DHB Starship PICU Beds Expansion and Atrium Redevelopment Project - 7 x files/folders

We are looking for an experienced Main Contractor to deliver the PICU Bed Expansion and Atrium Redevelopment Project for ADHB Starship Children’s Hospital.

Auckland District Health Board (ADHB) provides health and disability services to more than half a million people living in Auckland City, Waiheke and Great Barrier Island. ADHB also provides regional services to the residents of the Northern Region DHBs, and highly specialist national services to the whole of New Zealand.

The PICU at ADHB is the only specialist paediatric intensive care service in New Zealand. Services are provided for children where intensive care is required for longer than 24 hours. PICU provides a regional service for those requiring intensive care or high dependency care (except those requiring plastic surgeries and burn care), a national transport service and consultancy services to all New Zealand DHBs. There is no other ICU in New Zealand with the range of services provided by PICU – general and cardiac intensive care, retrieval service and ECMO service.

PICU provides:
• acute intensive care for all ADHB patients and for children from all other DHBs who need anything more than HDU or short-term ICU care;
• elective intensive care for children in Starship who require this to support surgery, medical procedures, and investigations; and
• acute intensive care and HDU care for children who deteriorate while being an inpatient in Starship.

This project will increase the capacity of the existing PICU area at Starship Children’s Hospital (Building A02).

The work required to deliver the increase in capacity has two components:

1. Expansion of PICU to create an additional 10 beds and clinical support spaces in the current non-clinical area.
2. The development of an atrium and public spaces on levels two and three in StarshipChildren’s Hospital to accommodate:
a. an improved support area for whanau of children in PICU
b. displaced PICU staff and equipment support
c. enhancement in Medical Day Stay
d. improve patient and whānau experience and access to Starship
