Blue Gum Weed Control on Kangaroo Island
Tender ID: 466109
Tender Details
Tender Description
Following the 2019/20 bushfires on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, Tasmanian Blue Gums (TBG) have germinated in areas of native vegetation that are adjacent to Blue Gum plantations. DEW has secured funding to control TBG infestations to prevent biodiversity impacts. Volunteers have been undertaking much of the Blue Gum control to date but volunteer capacity is limited and some control is more appropriate for contractors. In particular, Blue Gum saplings in creeklines and swamps are growing vigorously with some already 3-4m in height. Native vegetation is also regenerating well in these areas, making access more challenging. These areas provide significant habitat for a range of threatened flora and fauna species, so removal of Blue Gum saplings in a timely and sensitive manner is required.
