Tender Description

The GTRA, once developed, will be a modular, open standards-based systems architecture that supports replication of the operational environment and allows platforms and targets to be simulated, stimulated and/or replicated in the Live training environment (training areas and ranges).

The intent of GTRA is to improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of training information systems, such as targets and range systems through improved interoperability - internally between smart targets, weapon systems, platform sensors and range control facilities; and externally with the wider Persistent Land Simulation System.

GTRA is intended to provide industry general design parameters and have the following characteristics:

a. It is internal to the ranges, home station and training areas it standardises, defining data exchange and physical standards between targets, platforms and the control facility,

b. It standardises external data exchange with the Persistent Land Simulation System (PLSS) to achieve interoperability and empower evolution of Live, Virtual and Constructive (LVC) activities,

c. Is underpinned by open standards to support data exchange between subsystems delivered by different vendors to reduce cost, integration complexity and sustainment issues,

d. It supports development of requirements for acquisition of future target and range systems, reducing the time and effort associated with functional design,

e. It standardises and assures the provision of data services to training systems in barracks, close training and field training environments.

The intended purpose of the GTRA is to facilitate the efficient and effective integration of Land targets, Live Instrumented Systems (instrumented people and platforms) and training areas including ranges. The GTRA will facilitate the interoperability of targets and Live Instrumented Systems (LIS) with other Australian Generic Architecture (GxA) compliant systems, such as AS GSimA compliant systems to support the concept of Home Station Training (HST) when ranges networks are connected to the PLSS or CSimC.

Defence is undertaking an Industry Engagement Activity (IEA) on 22 July 2021 both physically and virtually (as required) to inform Defence Industry of the opportunities to contribute to the development of the GTRA.

Potential Australian Industry suppliers who are interested in contributing to GTRA should register their interest, provide a company capability statement and answer the information requirement questions via email to dltc.integration-team@defence.gov.au
