Mackenzie Wastewater Treatment Plants Pond Desludging

⁠⁠⁠The primary ponds at the Fairlie, Tekapo/Takapō and Twizel wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have not been de-sludged since their construction in the early 1980s. Sludge surveys conducted in May 2019 indicate that the build-up of sludge is significant enough to negatively impact the treatment achieved in these ponds and presents an odour risk. Consequently, Mackenzie District Council (MDC) have prepared the following RFT with the objective of commissioning a contractor to de-sludge these ponds into geotextile bags sitting within new geotextile bag/sludge containment areas lined with high density polyethylene (HDPE).

The intention is that physical works will proceed in the 2021/ 2022 Spring and Summer, with Practical Completion by the end of March 2022.

This open RFT is for proficient contractors that have the required experience in carrying out desludging contracts at other WWTPs in New Zealand.
