Tender Description

Scheduled commercial flights at the Richard Pearse Airport are currently two daily return flights to Wellington operated with a Dash 8 Q300 aircraft. It is understood that Air New Zealand are looking to phase out the Q300 aircraft and replace them with ATR aircraft in the medium term. Most flights take off/land from the 02 threshold end of the runway because of the prevailing north easterly wind.

The Timaru District Council maintenance strategy for the airport, developed in conjunction with Beca consultants, takes into account expected future traffic demands and builds on the last resurfacing project in 2006, where the central 23m of runway was overlaid with a 35 mm thick SuperPave AC14 mix and the outer 11.5 m on each side treated with a Pavecoat surface treatment.

For the current contract, Timaru District Council is seeking a competent airport sealing specialist. We wish to appoint a contractor with the capability to deliver an effective airport runway resurfacing project of the highest quality with minimal supervision. This will require:

  • Demonstrated track record of ability to work in a live airside environment and coordinate delivery to meet stringent quality requirements.
  • Commitment to effective resourcing, including ability to secure a reliable bitumen supply.
  • Use of highly experienced staff, including a project manager and sealing supervisor with excellent track record in comparable projects.
