Wood Pellet and Chip Fuel Supply

⁠⁠⁠The University of Canterbury (UC) is planning to convert its Boilers on the Ilam Campus from coal to wood.
Our plan intends to use pellets for peak load and wood chip fuel for off-peak load to support heating of buildings and domestic hot water (DHW).

This will be subject to the availability of the specified fuel type to be reliably delivered to UC throughout the heating season (Feb- Nov) to enable a peak estimated output of 12MW. The boiler plant includes a Maxitherm 12 MW MTHW Boiler as the primary heat source and two 3.5 MW Anderson Steam Boilers as standby. It is envisaged that UC will engage a supplier for wood fuel supply commencing Q1 2023.
