Bravus Mining & Resources Pty Ltd is developing the Carmichael Coal Mine in the North Galilee Basin, approximately 160 kilometres (km) northwest of Clermont, in Central Queensland. The Mine is expected to have an initial coal production rate of 10 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa). The project is a greenfield narrow-gauge railway of approximately 206 km in length to transport coal product from the Mine to the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.
The new railway passes through a culturally sensitive area and CRN is looking to mitigate the impact of this on the local community.
A visual screen combined with fauna exclusion fencing is proposed along this section to provide privacy for the sensitive area. The intention of the screen fence is to prevent a line of sight from the train into the culturally sensitive area as well as prevent vulnerable wildlife from entering the rail corridor. The fence will be 1030m long.
The privacy screen varies in height from 2m to 5m, depending on the line of sight afforded by terrain relative to the railway embankment height.
Privacy Screen Design
The culturally sensitive area coincides with a heavily vegetated area and is designated koala habitat. As such the fence design must incorporate the TMR standard koala fence requirements.
