Tender Description

Tropical Cyclone Veronica impacted the Port Hedland region between the 23rd and 25th of March 2019. Tropical Cyclone Veronica remained near the coast between Port Hedland and Karratha for more than 24 hours and generated high onshore winds at Port Hedland.

Coupled with high water levels, the waves generated by Tropical Cyclone Veronica at Port Hedland caused significant damage to assets and areas along the shoreline.

The Town engaged MP Rogers & Associates (MRA) to inspect and assess the damage following the impact. The inspections and assessments of the assets and areas along the Town’s coastline are detailed in Tropical Cyclone Veronica - Coastal Assessment & Recommendations (MRA 2019). From this 3 locations were identified for remediation and construction of new seawalls, these being:

• Marapikurrinya Park, Richardson St and Gap in between;

• Sutherland St; and

• Goode St.

The Town seeks a suitably qualified contractor, or contractors, to construct three (3) seawalls in Port Hedland. Works are to be completed as three (3) Parts.

Part Offers will be considered.

The respondent is only required to provide a response to at least one “Part” of the below scope of work to be considered a compliant tender. At the complete discretion of the Principal, they may choose to award all Parts to a single respondent or any combination of Parts to separate respondents.

It should be noted that Part 2 – Goode St Seawall intersects with the boundaries of an Aboriginal Site (DPLH ID: 6021 – Port Hedland Town Site). The respondent should ensure that they are aware of and have allowed for all requirements for working within this site. It is imperative that the disturbance of areas outside of the immediate work site be kept to a minimum. The Marapikurrinya family is particularly concerned for the vegetation, especially the dunes and the mangroves, around the sites.
