⁠⁠⁠About the program
In September 2022 the world’s best cyclists will come to Wollongong for the UCI Road World Championships - the pinnacle event in the international road cycling calendar. The Championships will include a range of men’s and women’s races, across age groups from junior to elite and community and participation events.

The 2022 UCI Road World Championships are a landmark event for Wollongong presenting a major opportunity to showcase the region, develop the sport and attract a new generation of cyclists.

Long after the excitement of Championships has passed, its success will be judged by the legacy it leaves for our future. 

The Local Organising Committee, Wollongong 2022 in collaboration with the NSW Government has developed a Legacy Plan and associated partnership program to engage with the wider community to help deliver a long lasting event legacy. 

This grant program is part of the Legacy Plan. 

Please read the grant guidelines carefully prior to making your application.  

A face-to-face Legacy Partnership Program information session will be held at Corrimal Community Centre on 18 February 2021 from 5:45pm to 6:30pm to provide further details about the grant program and application process.

Program objectives
The overall objectives of the Legacy Plan are:

a.    Sport and Active Recreation: Increase opportunities for participation in cycling 
b.    Transport: Support initiatives that increase opportunities for people to ride a bike (for active transport) 
c.    Policy: Maximising the event platform to further policy matters to support cycling 
d.    Education: Support educational programs that will develop all facets of cycling
e.    Tourism: Assist achieve a UCI Bike City designation for Wollongong
f.    People: Develop the skills of event organisers, event approval authorities and sport volunteers to support future events
g.    Partnerships: Provide a platform to galvanise the community interest and support to deliver legacy as part of the W2022

Grant applications must address at least one of these objectives.

Funding available
Total funding available for this Program is up to $150,000 in 2020/2021 and a further round of this grant program will be conducted in 2021/2022

Funding is available for projects that align with the objectives of the Wollongong 2022 Legacy Plan in the following Local Government areas:

Wollongong
Shellharbour 
Kiama 
Shoalhaven 
Wingecarribee
Wollondily
Funding for individual projects:
The maximum grant amount available is $20,000

The minimum grant amount available is $2,000

Organisations may apply for more than one project by completing a separate application for each project.  However, the maximum available to any one organisation is $20,000 in each grant round. 

Organisations must contribute at least 50% of cost of the project. This can be a financial contribution or through use of voluntary labour, donated materials and/or equipment or other resources directly related to the project.
