An Expression of Interest will be offered in early 2021 for the land and historic buildings located at 1 Surrey Street Bassendean.
The buildings comprise:
- the Pensioner Guard Cottage, being the oldest building still standing in Bassendean built by convicts (circa 1856)
- a Residence later built in 1893.
The Offer
Council is committed to ensuring heritage locations and buildings of historical value within the Town are recognised and cared for.
Interested parties will be required to demonstrate a genuine community benefit associated with their intended acquisition, which must include elements of heritage restoration and ongoing community access, and may also include a financial benefit for the Town.
At a minimum, the requirement for “community access” is to enable the Bassendean Historical Society to open the Pensioner Guard Cottage to the public on a monthly basis.
Potential interested parties may include private individuals or organisations. Considerations for use of the site may extend from being a private home through to a community facility or consulting rooms (subject to Council approval).
