The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) is tasked with ensuring that New Zealand qualifications are valued as credible and robust, both nationally and internationally. NZQA is a Crown entity, governed by an independent Board, appointed by the Minister of Education.
NZQA’s annual expenditure is around $80 million, and employs approximately 400 staff throughout the year, with many more contracted for the annual external examination process. NZQA provides leadership in assessment and qualifications, administering the assessment of the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA), University Entrance and the New Zealand Scholarship for secondary school students.
NZQA is changing how New Zealand students can undertake their secondary school examinations – transitioning from hand-written papers, to online. This reflects the way students already interact with the world, and how they are doing much of their learning, while preparing them for their next steps after school. More information about:
