Tender Description

The Department of Industry, Science, Energy, and Resources is seeking to fill an Interaction / Content Design role to support ongoing major projects across the Corporate and Digital Division. The role will be responsible for driving a human-centric approach to service delivery, with a focus on understanding customer, business, and technology needs and balancing these to deliver effective digital services. This is an opportunity to play an integral part in the transformation of government services and deliver fast, simple and user-centric services.

The successful candidates will have the opportunity to support the following projects:

1. Digital Business Tools - The objective of the project is to present businesses with an iterative digital maturity pathway. This will include the implementation of a platform that will enable users to answer questions in order to receive a tailored assessment of their digital maturity, with recommendations for improvement and where they can find additional support and advice.

2. Contributing to multiple departmental digital initiatives, and service improvements for public-facing and internal services, as part of agile multi-disciplinary teams, in the Corporate and Digital Division.

We are seeking an experienced Interaction / Content Designer with a dual skillset, working across both disciplines to deliver intuitive, user experiences and interactive content. The role will require the designer to work as part of multi-disciplinary teams to advise, plan, conduct, and lead user research activities, as well as co-design the interface, task flows, and overall user experience of content based services. The role will be responsible for ensuring all content meets user needs, and the layout, structure, and flow of information is clear, accessible, and inclusive for all users, so as to deliver on program objectives.

You will work closely with others in the team to:

• Collaborate with subject matter experts to write clear text in plain language, and structure content to reflect how users read online and on different devices.

• Lead user research activities, to build understanding of users and their behaviours and inform decision making, through a range of quantitative and qualitative research methods.

• Effectively scope, plan, and recruit participants for research activities and usability testing of services.

• Develop design artefacts including user journey maps, experience maps, task analysis, wireframes, and interactive prototypes to effectively communicate research findings and proposed solutions to various stakeholders.

• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, to help define a minimum viable product (MVP) with consideration for future iterations and service improvements, so as to provide a holistic end-to-end future state.

• Work closely with developers to iteratively design appropriate user pathways, information architecture, navigation, and interface components, in alignment with existing patterns and design systems.

• Conduct Co-Design and collaborative workshops, to re-frame problems into opportunities, generate ideas, and run design experiments (in order to validate, test, and iterate on service solutions).

• Track and measure service improvements to discern impact and delivery of value to customers and the organisation, iterating designs accordingly.

The successful candidate will require strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to exercise initiative and sound judgement. They will work as part of a multidisciplinary agile team, and must communicate effectively and manage relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders; including team members, product owners and executives. They must also be flexible with a willingness to cross skill and provide assistance to the team as required within an agile delivery environment.

The team will be primarily co-located in Industry House in Canberra, ACT. However, flexible remote working options are available for part of the week, and will need to be negotiated.
