Tender Description

Denizens of the Deep is a 70 piece display of intricate wood carvings depicting coral and sea life, much of which lives off the coast of Bundaberg. The display was hand carved by local resident Arthur “Nobby” Clark and was purchased by Bundaberg City Council in 2005. The entire display has resided in Bundaberg Regional Council’s Baraga Service Centre foyer for public display since acquisition.

The Bargara Service Centre was recently closed in 2019, and the building has now been repurposed. With Council securing private tenants in this building, and the artwork needing to be relocated, a new opportunity exists to ensure that Denizens of the Deep is appropriately displayed and recognised in a location that provides maximum value – for both the artwork itself and the community’s enjoyment.

Council is conducting a public tender to find a long-term home and organisation to appropriately display and care for this artwork. The future custodians of this artwork will be required to demonstrate that they can fulfill a number of requirements that align with how the artwork is to be displayed, accessed and maintained.
