SCOPE
The scope of the project is to deliver an Air Museum - Tocumwal Aviation Museum in addition also hosting the Council's Historic Aerodrome Museum Collection of World War II memorabilia.
Construction of a new 56m long x 24m wide x 6m eave height steel framed hanger.
Allowance for essential service connections
The total expenditure of this project is to be no greater than $520,000.00 EXCLUSIVE OF GST.
Project completion will occur when all the components of the scope are complete and suitable for operational use.
The scope consists of the consultation, design and construction of the facility to be undertaken in accordance with this specification.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Tocumwal (pop. 2,352) is one of two Murray River towns located in the Berrigan Shire. A popular river camping and holiday destination (Tocumwal Foreshore Reserve attracts in excess of 180,000 visitors per annum). The town's steady population growth is attributed to its proximity to Melbourne, the liveability and amenity of the town and visitor experiences.
The Council has been working for many years with the Tocumwal Historic Aerodrome Museum Committee of Management to find a permanent and secure home for their collection of World War II memorabilia relating to RAAF Station Tocumwal (Macintyre Field). The Committee has found a partner willing to operate an air museum to make this vision a reality.
This project will construct, on Council land, a building at Tocumwal Aerodrome capable of hosting a range of historic aircraft as well as climate-controlled exhibition and storage space for the historic memorabilia collection.
The building will also have space for a cafe catering for visitors to the museum, assisting to make the museum sustainable.
The proposed operator of the Aviation Museum, Tocumwal Aviation Museum Pty Ltd, in addition to hosting the Council's Historic Aerodrome Museum Committee's Collection of World War II memorabilia has established an Advisory Board which includes a range of experts covering museum operations, finance & accounting, education programs.
