Kainga Ora - Homes and Communities is a new Crown agency that brings together the people, capabilities and resources of KiwiBuild, Housing New Zealand, and its development subsidiary HLC.
Kainga Ora Homes and Communities intends to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) mid to late May 2020 for contractors interested in retrofitting its residential properties.
The Retrofit Programme involves contracts for up to a two year period for the refurbishment of multiple properties. Construction is expected to commence in October 2020 and be completed in June 2022.
Suitable contractors will have an understanding in completing complex renovation work and will have experience managing their established, reliable contractor pool. The programme requires contractors that are agile and flexible with their programme.

The work
Kainga Ora is making its homes warmer, drier, and healthier to help improve the wellbeing of our tenants. Through its Retrofit Programme Kainga Ora is upgrading and improving its older homes to help provide great places to call home for our tenants.
The work includes improvements to help make these older homes warmer, drier, and healthier such as full insulation, double glazing, improved air-tightness, ventilation and new heating to ensure a healthy indoor living environment. It will also look at upgrading bathrooms and kitchens, converting homes to a more modern open plan living layout, and making the homes more accessible.
On average the construction period for a property is 12 weeks.
