EOI - Illuminated artwork – calling artists

⁠⁠⁠We’re seeking concepts from artists and creatives for outdoor illuminated artworks that draw their inspiration from the Asian lantern tradition for the 2021 Sydney Lunar Festival.

Sydney Lunar Festival, attended by over 1.3 million people each year, is an opportunity to showcase your work to a global audience. The exhibition is a creative, contemporary interpretation of a centuries-old tradition and represents the 12 animal signs of the lunar zodiac.

The City of Sydney seeks concepts that represent the Ox or Dragon zodiac animals to be presented as part of the 2021 exhibition. Artists can submit expressions of interest for 1 or both of these animals.

The winning designs will be used to create large scale, 3-dimensional outdoor artworks that will be illuminated each evening of the festival. Successful artists will be paid a fee for their concept. The City will cover all costs for the presentation and manufacture of the artwork. We’ll work with artists and manufacturers to bring these concepts to life.

In 2021, we’ll celebrate the Year of the Ox. In addition to the exhibition, the City produces the dragon boat races, community performance program and a program of more than 95 associated events to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
