Council has a modern Wastewater Treatment Plant to treat the domestic, commercial and industrial waste from the Manawatu District. The plant produces a highly treated wastewater which is irrigated to land surrounding Wastewater Treatment Plant and/or discharged into the Oroua River. The resource consent conditions for the Wastewater Treatment Plant require a Bio-solid Management Plan.

It is Council's intention to operate a compost and bio-solid operation at the Wastewater Treatment Plant site to produce a suitable compost for Council's own use at the wider Wastewater Treatment Plant site on Kawakawa Rd.
