Tender Description

Local Land Services and Bourke Shire Council invite you to take part in the expression of interest for the Professional Wild Dog Controller Program.

LOCATION

Western Division of NSW, focusing on the Northern region.

BACKGROUND

The Professional Wild Dog Controller Program is a joint effort between Western Local Land Services and 16 incorporated pest animal control groups and Landcare groups, working with landholders across a diverse landscape to protect livestock and control wild dog numbers in the Western Division.

The 12 month program will expand on present control arrangements and integrate with existing local wild dog management plans. From this EOI process a pool of Professional Wild Dog Controllers will be established to work throughout the Western Division to control problem dogs in direct response to livestock attacks and dog sightings reported by landholders.

CONTRACT RATE

Set rate of $50 per hour plus GST and 0.25c/km mileage.

Successful applications will need to demonstrate the ability, or be prepared to meet all of the selection criteria, as specified in the EOI process.

Below is a summary of the selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated experience in using ‘best practice’ techniques (trapping, baiting, howling up and shooting) in wild dog control, with an extensive resume in trapping ‘problem’ wild dogs that have been killing livestock, often in challenging situations.
  • Must be able to investigate livestock attack incidents and engage the best practice methods to each situation that is presented.
  • Good people skills with the ability to communicate with administration staff, other pest controllers and other key stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate capacity to meet Work Health and Safety requirements.
  • Own and use ‘working trap dogs’ is highly recommended but not critical in all circumstances.
  • Ability to use digital trail cameras, GPS and maintain and submit records as directed.
  • Must have a driver’s licence.
  • Must have a current firearms licence (genuine reason vertebrate pest contract shoot).
  • AQF3 level chemical training or Local Land Services Vertebrate Pesticide Induction training and Canid Pest Ejector (CPE) training.
  • Public liability of not less than $20 million.
  • An ABN and be registered for GST.
  • Registered 4WD vehicle and full comprehensive insurance.
  • Capacity to undertake inductions and satisfy requirements for various companies and land managers.
  • Ability to clearly report results in a timely and professional manner using the latest technology.

Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience and success in removing difficult dogs from situations where livestock are being impacted.

From the EOI process, a list of preferred Professional Wild Dog Controllers will be established and then further assessed by an independent assessor to ensure competency and skill for wild dog control.

This will occur in the first week of December and applicants will need to be available during this period.
